The first thing that caught our eye about this brand was the image of the child on the label. There must be a story behind this image, we thought, and sure enough: There is! The child is Joe, and he is not only the company’s namesake but the son of its founders, Doug and Aimee Heck. Joe, as it turns out, has autism, and when his parents learned of the diagnosis, they also learned that probiotics are a great thing to add to his diet. Joe quickly took to kombucha, so Doug began brewing a ton of it at home, and soon enough a company was born.
Grape is their most popular flavor, and it’s easy to see why. It definitely has a prominent sweet concord grape note that lingers, with a crisp, mildly tart bite. Nice and fizzy. We could see this one pairing well with a big ol’ scoop of vanilla ice cream, getting all frothy and bubbly and creamy. We also love the compactness of the 11oz bottle and the fact that the company donates 10% of its profits to helping kids with autism!
