How cool is it that Alaska has a kombucha scene now—thanks to brewers like Zip Kombucha, who have the distinction of being the first commercially-licensed kombucha brewer in the entire state!
This Blueberry Mary flavor is so pleasantly unique. It has this very pleasant dominant note that is also present in their Original flavor. It’s kind of…malty. And then there’s a subtle blueberry note. There is something very comforting and familiar about the flavor—not just the taste, but the smell of it too. There’s a floral quality to it. (For another awesome blueberry flavored booch, read our profile of Buddha's Brew).
You might ask: How do they source their blueberries? It’s not that easy up there. Zip’s founders tells us that local cider and beer breweries have been helpful in putting them in touch with local growers. This batch we drank here was actually made with juiced organic blueberries that came from the frozen section of a popular retailer. Nothing wrong with that! Local commercial kombucha brewers like Zip are so important, because they’re able to sell at a more budget-friendly price to customers, since the out-of-state kombucha is quite a bit marked up.
Alaska… Someday we’ll make it up there and experience America at its wildest, kombucha in tow of course!
