It’s always such a thrill to experience a local kombucha brand in its native environment. In Philadelphia, we had the joy of trying Inspired Brews for the first time, and they are as local as local kombucha gets.
Brewing in small batches, they use seasonally-inspired ingredients (hence the name, Inspired Brews), and change their flavors monthly. They brew out of and operate Philly’s first (and only) kombucha bar. It’s a beautiful, airy space with exposed brick walls, where they sell their booch in these adorable bottles.
There’s only one thing we love more than great tasting booch, and that’s a lovely container. The labels were actually designed by one of the two owners, Jessa, who is a graphic designer!
The flavors are juicy, crisp, soft, with just enough bite to satisfy the purists but not scare off the newbies. Our favorite was Pear Date. So beautifully fizzy, sweet but not too sweet, luscious and tangy. Pear is becoming one of our favorite flavors in kombucha—it just balances the natural tartness of booch so well.
In addition to the kombucha bar, Inspried Brews sells their product at local restaurants, yoga studios and cafe’s. We hope that the beauty of their brews inspires further growth of Philly’s small, but certainly developing, kombucha community.
