Tonica’s story begins nearly a decade ago, in the Toronto kitchen of founder Zoey Shamai. It was there that she started first brewing kombucha back in 2007, after being introduced to it in a yoga community in New Mexico.

Four years later, she rebranded her product and expanded steadily into all Canadian markets. Zoey had a huge break the following year, in 2012, when she appeared on Canada’s popular “Dragons’ Den show, where entrepreneurs seeks business investors (the US version, “Shark Tank,” was spawned in 2009). Thanks to the appearance (and the successful investment), Tonica has seen a 400% growth since her appearance on the show.

We love the simple, cheerful packaging of this kombucha, and were really impressed with the overall quality of the brews.

Blueberry was super yum. We don’t often find booch with blueberry as a main ingredient and yet it is so perfect! That blueberry sweetness is such a great companion to the tartness of kombucha. Along with blueberries, there’s also black currant, cranberry and apple pieces, elderberries, cornflower and hibiscus petals. Those are some impressive ingredients! The Green Tea flavor is brewed perfectly. Flawless carbonation, crisp, with ginger ale notes, subtle sweetness. And, finally, we are very keen on the Peach with really with its full-bodied, complex, fruity flavor.
